Money Letters. 1833-39 Entires posted from Tanyblwch to Seathwaite or Sheffield to Barnsley both endorsed "Money Letter", Woodstock to London or within the London 3d Post both unusually endorsed "cash", the last to the Lord Mayor enclosing "10/- for the distressed person whose case appeared in The Times today". Also an unused c.1820 Post Office form for claiming money on Money Letters or missent and redirected letters forwarded by cross post; 1840 copy (printed for the House of Commons) of the 1839 (Dec 20) G.P.O Notice announcing that Money Letters will cease at the end of 1839 (after which Money Orders should be sent for sums up to £5, or banknotes should be cut in half and posted separately); and an 1857 O.H.M.S Mail Office cover posted within London endorsed "Money Letter" (17 years after this service ceased for the public). An unusual group. (7).
