THE SANDFORD ORCAS FOUR POSTER BED

19th century, incorporating earlier elements, an Elizabethan style oak tester bed, the back with two
arcaded panels and three caryatid figures flanked by carved and pierced eagles, the panelled ceiling with stylised flowers and a central pendant, the partly fluted front posts carved with stylised flowers, leafage and guilloche suspended from simple capitals, 166cm wide x 210cm long x 223cm high

This antiquarian oak "four poster"bed is sold with four faded crewel work curtains and bedding.

From the evidence of old polish on the floorboards beneath the carpet it would appear that this bed stood on this site from 1873. Duncan Sandys was born in the bed in 1908, as was John Medlycott in 1920. According to family records, it is shown in a photograph of this room circa 1914.
