Liverpool. 1839 Entire letters from Philadelphia (Mar 8) to London prepaid 75c freight money fee and charged 1/7, carried on the second return voyage (file folds) or from New York (Dec 13) carried on seventh and final return voyage with "8" charge mark, both with Liverpool Ship Letter handstamps. Also a small printed label "Presented to Capt. Alexr McLeod as a token of regard by the Lady Passengers of the Great Liverpool, 26th April 1845". The Trans Atlantic Steamship Co. "Liverpool" made seven transatlantic crossings in 1838-39, the final voyage arriving at Liverpool on 11th January 1840, the second day of 8d uniform ship letter rates, having run out of coal and stopping at Fayal, Azores, for further supplies. After the collapse of the Trans Atlantic S.S Co. it was sold to P&O in 1840 and renamed "Great Liverpool". (3).
