§ Charles Walter SIMPSON (1885-1971) Mousehole Harbour Gouache and body colour on paper, signed, 61.5 x 87cm, 76 x 101cm framed. This dramatic work is in very presentable condition. We notice a ridge in the paper (see image) this is likely to be a papermaking feature but it may be a tear. Charles Simpson has painted over it. It was there when the work was created. To the left above the seagull are two flaws (see image). To the right there is cracking of paint on the wheelhouse window caused by insufficient dilution of the gum arabic binder. (see image) This is now stable. The work may benefit from cleaning.
