IMRE GOTH (1893-1982)
SEVEN PORTRAITS
Two signed or monogrammed and dated 1929 and 1931, red chalk, unframed
38 x 30.5cm.
* Goth occupies a curious place in 20th Century portraiture. A Hungarian Jew who rose to prominence in Germany in the 1930's, he won a commission to paint Heman Goering. He fled to Britain during the upsurge of Nazism and was interned on the Isle of Man. After the War, Goth found an entry into the world of show business after being befriended by Alexander Korda and he then found an alternative source of income as an inventor of items as diverse as car headlights and a parachute.
