A 1930s Chief Officer's plated Merry Weather fire brigade helmet with standard brigade cross axe helmet plate depicting a looped hose connected to two branch pipes surmounted with a torch motif, complete with chin strap, rosettes and velvet liner, on later mahogany stand and plinth base with presentation plaque, height 30cm.
Provenance - With letter of provenance showing it as having been purchased in 1972 for £25 from Bexhill on Sea following an advert in Exchange and Mart. Originally purchased in 1910 by the local town council of the town of Battle in Sussex for their Chief Fire Officer of the Battle Volunteer Fire Brigade apparently named Newbury.
