Samuel Woodward was the publisher of the Phonographic Meteor, based in Derby. In an attempt to promote his work as a stenographer, Wood wrote to numerous individuals he deemed influential. One response, from the politician Ralph Disraeli, typifies many, '27 May 1881. Sir, I beg to thank you for the receipt of an ingenious photograph of a post card, of a sketch of the career of the late Earl of Beaconsfield. It certainly has an advantage over much of the nonsense I have been compelled to read lately, in being totally illegible.'. *Condition Report Very light scuffing to leather. **BP 22.5% (inc.
