A neatly sized original Helen Hiney (Carlow, contemporary) oil on board painting featuring a rural landscape scene on an autumn day. Signed bottom left and housed in a grey and gilt frame. B & L Timmons framers sticker to verso.
Hiney began painting after her diagnosis with Multiple Sclerosis in 1989, after months of doctor's appointments and trips to hospitals in Dublin. The worst part was not knowing what it was that she was suffering from and then she had to resign her part time job in Kerry Co-op in Hacketstown. She got great enjoyment out of painting and it gave her a new lease of life, something to immerse herself in. The small group that started the night classes began selling a few paintings. She entered a competition on a local radio station and met the DJ Tom Brown to collect a prize she had won. Tom Brown was the working name of Carlow based artist Roland Byrne. They became friends and Roland started taking some of Helen's paintings up to exhibitions in Dublin. She now specialises in oil paintings although it is less than three years since she first experimented with it, and she has made it her speciality.
