William John Leech RHA ROI (1881-1968) The Convent Walk, Christchurch Oil on canvas, 42 x 52cm (16.5 x 20.75) Signed lower right, inscribed with title on partial Dawson Gallery label verso This is one of several works executed by Leech at Christchurch in the South of England. In the 1940's due to the war and a shortage of money Leech could no longer travel to France each year so he went to the South of England. This picture is thought to depict the River Stour at Christchurch as it flowed down to the sea at Harwich from the Gog Magog Hills. Two works painted nearby of Christchurch Priory were included in the 1996 Exhibition ''William John Leech'' at the National Gallery of Ireland.
