Newhouse Capt. Daniel, The Whole Art of Navigation; in five books. containing I. the principles of navigation and geometry. II. the principles of astromomy. III. the practical part of navigation. IV. the description and use of such instruments, as are useful in taking observations at sea. with dedication to James II,dated 1685 maps and illustrations, printed for Thomas Passenger at The Three Bibles,1686. In tooled leather binding embossed M J R for Margaret Storm Jameson. Blank front matter also contains notes regarding gifting and ownership of the book, notably the Bradford family from 1698
Provenance: The lot comes with a hand written letter with details of the gift of the book dated 3 rd May 1931.
Notes: Margaret Storm Jameson 1891-1986, was a writer and journalist. The Ship first of a trilogy written by the author was published in 1927.

Engraved frontispiece missing, James R and title pages there, Epistle Deicatory there. To the Reader there. To Captain Newhouse there. Tables 1-5 there. Book 1 Pages 19- 22 missing (never bound in ?). Book 2 complete. Book 3 charts opposite pages 136 & 162. pages 200 - 210 numbered 100-110. Book 4 pages 211-224 numbered 111 - 124 then followed by pages 121 - 152 then 253 -311. Book 5 pages 1 - 128 then pages 113 - 131, page 120 numbered as 102. A piece of hand written script 10 x 15 cm approx. bound in between pages 106 - 107. Page 131, bottom right corner clipped, 3 cm long.
