1797 Battle of Cape St Vincent white metal medal, Hancock and Kempson (Eimer 881). Obverse: left-facing armoured bust with 'JOHN JERVIS EARL OF ST VINCENT ADMIRAL OF THE WHITE' with 'BORN JANUARY 26 1733' below with 'HANCOCK' to the shoulder. Reverse: Hispania reclines next to a Spanish shield while a sea battle rages in the background, 'FEBRUARY 14 1797.' below with 'P · K' at the bottom and 'WITH 22 SHIPS AND 1428 GUNS PURSUED & DEFEATED THE SPANISH FLEET OF 37 SHIPS & 2600 GUNS FOUR SHIPS AND 382 GUNS TAKEN' above. Weight: 46.74g. Diameter: 49mm. Grade: gF - good Fine, a few contact marks to both sides with a dink in front of the chin on the obverse. Provenance: Tennants, 22 August 2012, part of lot 420.

Commemorates the victory of a British fleet under Admiral Sir John Jervis over the Spanish at the Battle of Cape St Vincent on 14 February 1797.
