The work is signed "Erte" in the lower right corner of the painting. On the reverse, it is stamped with "Erte, Romain De Tirtoff, 124 Rue de Brancas, Sevres," and the title of the work is written as "Les Fleuves, 'L'Ocean et les Iles'." It is also numbered 607 and dated "II-1923."
Romain De Tirtoff, professionally known as Erte, was a Russian-born French artist celebrated for his Art Deco style in fashion, theatre, and graphic arts. Born in Saint Petersburg in 1892, Erte made a mark in the 1920s and 1930s with his elegant, intricate designs for theater, Hollywood films, and high fashion, also illustrating for magazines like Harper's Bazaar. His work epitomizes Art Deco, blending glamour and sophistication.
