AMERICAN INTEREST. Three ALsS relating to land in West Florida: 1. Morgan, Col. George. ALS to Mrs. Marlow at Gosport, Hants. Morganza, Near Canonsburgh Post Office, Washington County, Pennsylvania, June 8th 1801. 2 and a half pp., 4to., with separate additional address panel to the same (defective). He states that in accordance with the letter he has received from Mrs. Marlow's son Benjamin he is addressing "my future correspondence to you, in regard to the Patent in my Hands for 600 acres of land in West Florida lately ceded to the United States by the French Republic. As until this event the Patent was of no value I thought it unnecessary even to put Mr. Marlow to the Expense of Postage. But as I am now persuaded that these 600 acres may become an object of considerable value to any one of your children under our happy Government, & in a most fertile climate & soil, or, as an object of sale, I embraced the earliest opportunity to desire my son General John Morgan to inform you of the circumstances" 2. Morgan, General John. ALS to Benjamin Marlow c/o The Secretary of State for War of Great Britain. (on address panel). Prospect, New Jersey, December l, 1803. Referring to the same land in the will of Marlow's father's friend Thomas Hutchins "of the 60th Royal American Regiment". "My father [ Col.George Morgan, executor of Hutchins's will] thinks you have a fair chance of Recovery…" 2pp., folio. 3. Marlow, Benjamin. Draft or copy ALS in response to General Morgan's letter above. Gosport, April 2nd 1804. He confirms that he is the eldest son of Benjamin Marlow, Lt. Col. in the Royal Regiment of Artillery, who died at Martinique in 1797, when Commanding Officer of Artillery in the Leeward Islands, leaving " all his freehold estate to his wife and thereafter to be equally divided between his children". The writer accepts the kind offer of assistance in selling the land. 2pp., 4to
