FIVE JAPANESE BAMBOO BASKETS, 19/20TH CENTURY. Five Japanese bamboo baskets, including three with circular bodies, two with tall loop handles, elaborately woven in a variety of patterns, the two smaller pieces inscribed Shokosai tsukuru kore for Hayakawa Shokosai I & II, plus two sumitori (charcoal baskets), one with a cross-shaped base and a wide circular mouth, the other with a hexagonal body and raised on short feet, the bamboo strips woven in a variety of techniques to produces diverse patterns, with two tomobako wood boxes, 28cm max.
There is a crack approx. 2cm long from the rim of the interior section of the box, visible on one side. Wear to the box rim from contact with the cover caused by repeated use. There is a crack to the interior of the cover in one corner from the rim approx. 3 cm.
