A FIRST WORLD CASUALTY PAIR TO THE SOUTH LANCASHIRE REGIMENT. A Great War pair comprising War Medal and Victory Medal named to 203427 Pte G.W. Hurd S. Lan R. George William Hurd was the son of Mr G. Hurd and Mrs Hurd of 25 Columbus Ravine Scarborough and husband to G. Hurd of 74 Horsforth Avenue, Bridlington. He served with the 1st/4th Battalion of the South Lancashire Regiment and died of wounds on the 24th July 1917, he is buried at the Mont Huon Military Cemetery, Le Treport, his headstone reads 'He died that we might live, Greater Love hath no man', he was 31 years old.
