AN UNCOMMON PEWTER HALF-GALLON HAYSTACK MEASURE, IRISH, CIRCA 1830. The slender body of typical form, with fillet to widest point and stamped ‘1/2 GALLON’. tall flared collar with numerous verification marks, including crowned ‘VR’ mark, hollow cast single curve handle with flush lower attachment, maker’s mark of Joseph Austen & Son, Cork (fl.1823-1846), (PS10) to base underside, 25cm high.
