The Admiral Gardner, East India Company, wrecked on Goodwin Sands 1809. A cannonball And other artifacts, including copper pins, and bottle fragments, some possibly from other wrecks. The East Indiaman Admiral Gardner foundered on Goodwin Sands in 1809. She had just embarked on her sixth passage to India when contrary winds caused her downfall. There was mercifully little loss of life but, the cargo was lost. The cargo included this barrel of thousands of brand new Cash coins from the Birmingham manufactory of Matthew Boulton minted using the pioneering steam power of world famous inventor James Watt. They were going to India to oil the wheels of The East India Company commerce.
