Two 1827 Pattern Naval Officers Dress Swords: The first, with 80cm/31.5-inch single-edged blade with 3/4 fuller and spear point, burnished Atabesque decoration fouled anchor and George V monogram, ricasso with proof button and 'Bennetts, 5 Arundel St, Landport, solid brass gothic hilt with folding lock plate and scrolled quillon, Lion pommel and back-strap, wire-bound shagreen grip, black leather scabbard with brass shoe drag, middle and top bands, the second with76cm/30-inch single-edged blade with 3/4 filler and spear tip, burnished Arabesque decoration with fouled anchor and British Royal Coat-of-Arms, ricasso with proof button and 'W. Hartley & Co, Naval Outfitters, Portsmouth,' solid gothic hilt with scrolled quillon and hinged locking plate, lion's pommel and backstrap with bullion knot and wire-bound shagreen grip, leather scabbard with brass chape, middle and top bands, together with slip case belt hanger. Provenance: Originally purchased by Cdr (Engineer) W Howsego RN, from W Hartley Portsmouth & Bennets Landports Portsmouth, who served on the K class & M class submarines during and after WW1, completing his Naval service 1946. The belt and swords were then passed onto his Nephew Lt (Engineer Wpn) M Silvester RN, who served on various Oberon class submarines and HMS Repulse ballistic submarine, completing his service 1984.
