By the late 1970s, the motocross arms race was in full swing, and Suzuki was at the forefront of innovation. The 1978 Suzuki RM125 arrived as a serious contender in the fiercely competitive 125cc class, bringing with it a refined chassis, sharp handling, and the kind of high-revving two-stroke performance that made Suzuki a dominant force on the track.
This era of the RM series saw Suzuki pushing the boundaries of motocross technology, and the 1978 model benefitted from a redesigned frame that improved rigidity and balance, giving riders better control in the air and on rough terrain. The 123cc reed-valve two-stroke engine was known for its strong mid-range power band and quick throttle response, delivering an exhilarating ride whether battling for position on the track or carving through open trails.
Finished in Suzuki’s iconic yellow and black livery, this RM125 captures the unmistakable look of late-‘70s motocross, when factory-backed riders like Gaston Rahier and Roger DeCoster were dominating in the world championship scene.
This example is in good mechanical and cosmetic order, all-original and running well. It would make a great light restoration project.
