A mid-18th century treen carved oak and beech candle box - of rectangular form and nailed construction, good colour, the sides carved with stylised roundels and flowers, geometric shapes and fleur-de-lys, one end panel with a strapwork rosette and the other with a Maltese cross rondel within fluted spandrels, the sliding lid with fluted arcaded carving between barleytwist borders, with the carved date '1747' and the initials 'PS', the handle of star-carved trefoil form. (LWH 23 x 8.3 x 8.3cm)
