1880 QV ½a Handpainted stamp size artists essay in the issued design, superbly painted in blue-green and Chinese white, on thick card (84x102mm) dated "JULY 9TH 80" and numbered "No 1", endorsed "Proof in a variety of colours for selection to be printed when the plate is finished", "This duty is considered equivalent to ½d & will have to be printed in the ½d international colour" and "Approved, A.A Jopp 10·12·80", handstamped "14 DEC 80". A superb and unique essay for the ½a stamp issued in 1882, from the De La Rue archives. Photo included on Front Cover.
