An interesting Irish presentation double barrelled over and under 32 bore percussion pistol by Kavanagh of Dublin, 10½" overall, octagonal twist barrels 4½" with gold vents and gold lines at the breech, the top flat engraved "Kavanagh, Dane St, Dublin", with scroll engraved side by side back action locks with three cocking positions, signed "Kavanagh", saw handled chequered walnut butt, engraved steel trigger guard, and flat silver butt cap engraved "By Command of the Lord Lieutenant Presented to Sub Inspector I. Thompson for Meritorious Constabulary Services June 1843". GWO & C (some light wear and patches of rust staining, minor marks to the butt cap). Note: the "Warder and Dublin Weekly Mail" publication of Saturday 8th July 1843 relates " Sub Inspector Thompson, of the Adare district, has been awarded by his Excellency the Lord Lieutenant a case of beautifully mounted pistols, for his exertions in detecting outrage and preserving the peace of the country". £1200-1600
