Clare WHITE (1903-1997) Convent Sainte Marie de la Tourette, close to Lyon Watercolour, signed, 37.5 x 51cm. This unusual striking watercolour by St Ives artist Clare White shows the remarkable interior of modernist architect Le Corbusier’s Convent Sainte Marie de la Tourette, close to Lyon. Painted in the 1960s, very soon after the convent’s concrete construction was completed, Clare was fascinated by its shapes and colours and painted it from several different perspectives.
