1827 Pattern Attributed 49th Middlesex Rifle Volunteers Sword


32 3/4 inch, single edged blade with large fuller.  Etched foliage panels, crowned VR cypher and crowned strung bugle with scrolls engraved "Major Baines" "49th MX. R.V.".  Forte with maker "G Robinson Maker Birmingham".  Steel guard with Vic crown strung bugle cartouche.  Steel stepped pommel and backstrap.  Shagreen covered grip with twist wire binding.  Contained in its plated steel scabbard.  30 % of plating absent.  

The 49th originally raised from the General Post Office London.
