1878 silver presentation tea kettle, 25cm tall, lid fitted with cloth helmet replica piece, neatly engraved to front "Fife Light Horse Presented to Corporal James Thom Cupar Troop For Swordsmanship by Major Crabtree Late Adjutant of the Regt 1878", opposite side with regimental crest with armoured knight on horseback with Pro Aris Et Focis in scroll below, hinged lid, bone cut outs to handle, unidentified hallmarks to base including crown/T.B&S, with odd minor knock, generally good very fine.
With copied newspaper extract from Dundee Courier 30/7/78 - Military Sports. On Saturday, previous to the disbanding of the Fife & Forfarshire Light Horse at St St Andrews, a programme of military sports was gone into under the superintendence of Col Thomson. The sports were witnessed by a great number of spectators from all parts of the country. Among the prize winners listed was - Post Practice First Corporal J. Thom.
