** PLYMOUTH - P.O.W. CENSORED COVER EX PRISON HULK WITH OVAL "TRANSPORT/[Crown]/G.R./PRISONERS OF WAR"; Fine 20 May 1799 EL from "Sencion Rodrigues...a bord du 'Commerce de Marseille' en rade du dock par Plimout en Angleterre" to his cousin in Bordeaux charged "14" with partly fine "57/GRAVELINES" on the front, and a mainly fine oval "TRANSPORT/[Crown]/G.R./PRISONERS OF WAR" on the lower flap along with a faint censor's initials (see MFPWE p.214). Rodrigues asks for money and states that he was captured on the corsair 'La Gironde' on 27 May 1798. An early Plymouth POW cover from a Prison Hulk.
