A JAPANESE FUKUSA DEPICTING MINOGAME, LONG TAILED TURTLES, EARLY MEIJI PERIOD (1868-1912). Of rectangular form made of dark blue silk satin depicting the 'Three Friends of Winter' (pine, bamboo and plum) along with a crane and 'minogame', long-tailed turtles, all symbolic of longevity. Worked entirely in gold thread with red 'chirimen' (crepe silk) padded backing. 70cm x 53cm. *A fukusa is a panel of silk used to cover a gift placed on a tray when gifts are exchanged between prominent families during important occasions such as weddings, New Year’s, and annual festivals.
Loose stitching in areas between the blue silk and red backing. Easily restitched, the materials in good overall condition.
