Fred "Snailman" Somerscales, an oak extending dining table, the refectory style table with oblong top on octagonal baluster end supports, pull out extending leaves, joined by a floor stretcher, intaglio carved snail to the stretcher, brass plaque to the underside, 166 x 95 cm, 242 cm extended.
Fred trained under Richard Collinson, an ecclesiastical cabinetmaker and established his own business in Keelby, North Lincolnshire in February 2000, he followed the tradition of the Yorkshire/Lincolnshire cabinet makers and carves a snail on his work, which has rarely appeared on the market.
