A RARE SAFAVID ENAMELLED BRASS BOWL, PERSIA, FIRST HALF OF THE 17TH CENTURY

of compressed globular form on a tapering foot with waisted flaring rim, profusely engraved with a lattice containing vegetal interlace, above and below bands of tendrils and interlace interspersed by lobed medallions, the well with engraved roundel surrounded by three fish, decorated in possibly later red and blue enamel.


28 cm. diam.

A Safavid torch stand with remains of original red inlay was sold at Christie's, Art of the Islamic and Indian Worlds, 25 April 2013, lot 120.
