D. W. E. Gutman, 1917, British - Brazilian Marine Art, Oil on canvas, A rare view of a Mediterranean port scene with French iron hull warships and English merchant shipping and possibly the hospital ship Lanfrank leaving the port carrying injured personnel to Southampton. The date of 1917 suggests it may be its last trip when it was torpedoed by German SM UB-40 Submarine on 17th April 1917 and sunk with the loss of 34 + German and English mariners, Signed and dated '1917' lower left. 8 1/4 x 15''? (Though may be Beirut) The artists has painted the Lanfrank as well as trips up the Amazon to Manaus in Brazil.
