£2,700
A nameplate COLOSSUS from a BR Class 47 No D1672, later 47 086, built at Crewe and allocated new to Cardiff Canton in April 1965. It was named the following August after one of the seven wonders of the world, a statue of Apollo set in the entrance to Rhodes Harbour, destroyed by an earthquake in 225BC. The original cast aluminium nameplates with GWR style lettering were missing by 1978 and replaced by fibreglass plates, of which this is one, in April 1982. These were transferred to 47 564 in October 1986 and removed in June 1991, 44"x8¼", ex loco condition. (Postage Band: D)
