£800
A GWR cabside numberplate, 9020, from a 9000 Earl Class 4-4-0 built in November 1938 using the original frames of the earlier Bulldog Class 4-4-0 No 3414 and replacing the scrapped Duke Class 4-4-0 No 3279. Because of their ancestry they were usually known as Dukedogs. Numbered 3220 when built, it was renumbered 9020 in August 1946. A Cambrian lines engine, it was allocated to Oswestry before finishing its days at Machynlleth from where it was withdrawn in July 1957 and cut up at Swindon Works. Cast brass, the front repainted, the back marked Machynlleth. A small section of the top right edge has been milled away to clear a rivet or other obstruction. (Postage Band: N/A)
