RARE UNDERPAID 3c-RATE TRANSATLANTIC PRINTED MATTER COVER VIA U.S. WITH 1859 1c ROSE EX MONTREAL; 16 Oct. 1863 unsealed EL (printed Montreal prices current; slight filing crease across address clear of stamps) to Glasgow "Per Canadian Mail" having a very fine sender's blue oval "PRINTED/CIRCULAR" mark at top left) with 1859 1c Rose vertical pair tied by unclear "21" cancels but underpaid 1c (the extra 1c was for the US transit rate in this case) and so having a black h.s. "1" on the front beside the very fine "GLASGOW PACKET/UNPAID" d.s. (28 Oct.). Wonderful matching cover to the previous lot - same correspondence but one week later, showing the different rates for direct or via-US routes. Exhibition Item.
