BMC introduced the Mk 1 Cooper S in April 1963 with an with an engine of 1071cc. It was squarely aimed at the competition market and it was soon seen on race circuits and on rallies. Externally the Cooper S looked very much like the 997cc Cooper although it had an S badge on the bonnet and boot. The interior was much the same except for the 120 mph speedo .
The 1071 S stayed in production until August 1964, and though only in production for little over a year, about 4000 1071 S cars were built.
Registered in January 65 this is one of the last 1071cc Cooper S's made, in fact it was the 54th last produced. Recently re-commissioned it comes with a Heritage Certificate, matching numbers and with a fresh MOT.
