A Victorian gold, enamel and cabochon garnet mourning brooch, inscribed "In memory of George Holgate, Obt Nov 20th 1848, at 67, C. Holgate died Jan 8th 1902 aged 82", 5x4cm, 21.8gm, (metal centre a later addition).
* George Holgate, a liquor merchant was born 1781 at Whalley Burnley, married Mary Fishwick, 1805. Catherine, born 1820, 1871 census spinster living on own means, Burnley, died Burnley.
