£220 - £300
VERY RARE CIRCULAR "POSTAGE/d1/STAMP NOT VISIBLE" ON I.L.N. FRONT PAGE WITH ADDRESS; 20 Sept. 1856 front page of "THE ILLUSTRATED LONDON NEWS" (folds neatly to fit an album page) sent from London to "Parcglas, Narbeth, Wales" (a gentleman's residence near Narbeth; presumably the addressee's name lost when slightly trimmed) at top right with a mainly very fine strike of this very rare London "POSTAGE/d1/STAMP NOT VISIBLE" mark alongside; there is a fine red Tax Stamp at the foot of the front page, which must have been folded inside when posted. This is one of the rarest GB Postage Due marks on anything like a complete cover such as this. [Illustrated in BPPP, p.141.] [Ex Charless Hahn, Cavendish Mar. 2014, lot 1516; realised £360+BP.] Plus 22 May 1860 front page of the Journal of Gas Lighting addressed to Amsterdam with a 2d Blue that does not belong.
