subject size 28.5 x 18.5cm, ink and watercolour on card. *Notes- George Stillings was born in 1907 and travelled with his family around many of the seaside towns of Devon during the summers of his youth. Attending St James's Great School, Plymouth he gained reputation for his doodles in the margin of his notebooks. At the age of 13 his father sent one of his drawing to the Western Evening Herald in Plymouth who promptly published it. from then on he maintained a working relationship with the newspaper. He is perhaps best known for the creation of his Devon character 'Old Garge' and his series of humorous Devon and Cornwall postcards.
