John Boultbee (1753-1812 ) Equine School, Oil on canvas, A saddled horse belonging to Godfrey Thornton , Bank of England Director , standing before the Moggerhanger House and lake, Signed and dated '1799' top left, 23 x 29 1/2''. In a large moulded Birdseye Maple frame. Moggerhanger House is a Grade I listed house in Moggerhanger ' Bedfordshire , England designed by the architect John Soane and having gardens designed by Humphry Repton (1754-1818) successor to Capability Brown. Christies recently had a sale of the Repton ''RED BOOKS'' for ''Mogenhanger in Bedfordshire a Seat of Godfrey Thornton Esq.'' John Boultbee was somewhat influenced by George Stubbs. Boultbee also taught Thomas Weaver (1774-1843) the famous livestock painter.
