The White Hart Hotel, Hayle ephemera and souvenirs Items from The White Hart, Hayle spanning a period of sixty years from 1920 to 1980. Owned and run by Kathleen Edgington, who became one of the first female publicans to have an alcohol licence in their own name. Contains: Filled visitor books from 1920s to 1945, 1945s to 1954s and 1954s to 1970s; accounting old books 1950s to 1977s; two Bar Taking Books, 1973 to 1976s, White Hart postcards stating the hotel has hot/cold baths; adverts for WH from two land owners; old keys for the White Hart; accounts for the White Hart from 1950s-1970's; letters from Hayle Rugby Football Club/ St Austell Brewer/ RSPCA 1950s of thanks of supporting and doing an amazing job; RPSCA forms to join – given to guests to join and support; White Hart licenses from 1950s to 1970s; St Austell Brewery price lists for Nov 1970, Oct 1972, April 1973, November & April 1974; Inventory from The White Hart from 1977; Hayle Historic Trail & The History of Hayle by Virginia Bliss; historic photos of The White Hart for events, such as the Coronation set up, weddings, St Michaels Hospital, Cornwall Council, Trencrom Motor Club, horse carriages at Hayle, the viaduct and others;a white metal napkin ring; photo book of Cornish Weddings linked to the White Hart; photos of wedding/fairy queens of Hayle; original rummer with White Hart, W.H Trevena inscribed; napkins/table cloths with White Hart detailing; various stationary items from the White Hart including Invoice/sales books, stamped envelopes, postcards, letter heads and luggage labels Provenance: My Late great Auntie Kay, known as Kathleen Edginton to others came down to Cornwall to run the White Heart Hotel (WH) with her husband. Her husband decided that its wasn’t for him and left Auntie Kay with a big decision and she decided to stay at the WH and run the pub, hotel and stables on her own. She was one of the first women to get a licence in her own name on her own – which must have been a proud moment – which I am still proud of. Auntie Kay never loved again, he broke her heart. Auntie was a great animal lover and stabled her own horses and others at the back of the hotel. The hotel always had a resident dog or two walking around these ranged from the mongrel to jack Russell’s to Dalmatians. I remember going to see her at her home after retiring from the WH and she had a portrait done of all of each of her animals normally at the WH and she used to share her fun with that animal at the white heart – I loved hearing about it. Auntie Kay loved supporting local charities and as a landlady she always had something going to collect for others. She supported local community charities Hayle Rugby football Club as well as the RSPCA (there are a photo of the collections at WH). Auntie Kay ran the hotel for 32 years only leaving as it was sold in 1977. Auntie Kay was a gently happy soul who always had a smile for everyone and tried to help out where she could. This box of goodies about the White Heart Hotel has been handed down through the generations but we would love it to be on display somewhere as it has great historic memories of Hayle and the hotel.
