BIRKENHEAD - RARE SPOON CANCEL TO OVERSEAS PAIR: An env. addressed to Paris franked with four 1d red stars (a strip of 3 and a single) all tied by 3 "BIRKENHEAD/15NO/1856/5/74" Spoon cancels, with a Calais transit mark and red "PD" on front & a fine green "GRANGE LANE" UDC on reverse; and an env. to Brussels (repaired faults) with a 6d lilac tied by a very fine "BIRKENHEAD/JY16/1857/H/74" Spoon cancel with red oval "PD" adjacent and a Brussels receiver cds & "17" in circle (postman's route number) on reverse.
