Dan Welldon, Polar Bear, Sea Ice North of Spitsbergen, 1/15, signed verso, floating frame, 44.5cm x 66cm overall
I was fortunate enough to come close enough to almost touch this polar bear, though from the safety of the aft deck of the ice breaker I was on. As I admired the grandeur, grace, and stunning texture of the mane of this wonderful animal, I was struck not only by the fragility of the sea ice it was standing on, but also of the future of the animal itself as it struggles with ever dwindling sea ice and ever harder to find prey to feed on. This image is a reminder of the balance of that fragile relationship of stunning natural beauty and the hazardous future it faces. Giclée prints on Da Vinci Archival white 315gsm, mounted onto 2mm aluminium di-bond and set in an oak black stained tray frame
