A pair of 'Black Forest' carved and stained oak framed game trophies, Dutch, late 19th century; by Willem Engels of Zwolle; with preserved game birds beneath domed glass; the surrounds relief carved oak leaves and acorns within rustic twig borders; each with metal maker's plaque; 60cm high, 54cm wide Note: Willem Engels (1871 - 1936) was born and raised in Zwolle in the northeastern Netherlands. He and his brother were noted taxidermists, running a successful and respected business, until the premises were completely destroyed by fire in 1923.
