A leather cased stock pin, bearing a nail inscribed "April 5th" silk case lining printed "Catchpole and Williams, 14 Grafton Street, Bond Street, W" together with a copy of the "Vost's" 1995 auction catalogue, detailing this item as Lot 172, property of Mr Tom Walls, please note Lot 171 a portrait of Mr Tom Walls, wearing the pin in his stock. He was famous for owning and training the Derby Winner "April the Fifth" in 1932, The horse, who owed his name to his foaling date, had to be ridden to the course after the horsebox became stuck in traffic, and won by three-quarters of a length in the hands of Fred Lane at 100/6.
