Taylor was born on 2 August 1884 in Munster, Germany. He enlisted in the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 11 May 1900 and served for a total of 38 years before
being pensioned to shore as a Chief Petty Officer (Telegraphist) on 3 October 1938. He served on a variety of famous ships including HMS Black Prince, a cruiser later
sunk at the Battle of Jutland, and the revolutionary battleship HMS Dreadnaught. He earned the 1914/15 Star, British War Medal and Victory medal for his WW1 service
and was awarded the LS & GC Medal on 6 August 1918. With copies of his record of service and medal entitlement. Some contact marking but otherwise Very Fine (VF),
