TWO SIMILAR 19TH CENTURY FRENCH 'CHASSEPOT' TYPE BAYONETS AND MATCHING SCABBARDS. A 19th century French Chassepot type bayonet with a 52cm pointed, single edged blade with broad back engraved ' ... St Etienne .. 1880'. The cross guard with forward facing quillon with varius issue marks, two part wooden handle and functioning spring. numbered 26991, in matching scabbard numbered 26991. 66 cm overall. And another similar with same date, both numbered 281215. (2).
