SIEGE OF PARIS - BALLON MONTÉ - CRASH IN NORWAY OF 'LA VILLE D'ORLÉANS' COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL; Rare Dec. 1870 small brass medallion (14mm diameter) made at the time near the spot in Norway where this balloon famously crash-landed after being blown way off course. A local Norwegian metal-worker created these commemorative medals from metal recovered from the balloon's salvaged parts while the wrecked balloon was displayed at Drammen in December 1870.
