A FIRST DAY OF THE SOMME CASUALTY TRIO TO THE EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. A Great War Trio comprising 1914-15 Star named to 11115 Pte C. FEATHERSTONE E. YORK R. With War Medal and Victory Medal similarly named. Private Charles Featherstone from Hull served with the 1st Battalion of the East Yorkshire Regiment, he entered France on the 31st July 1915 and died on the 1st July 1916 and is buried at the Gordon Dump Cemetery, Ovillers Ls Boisselle. The 1st Battalion of the East Yorkshire Regiment were amongst those who attacked towards Fricourt, advancing under heavy fire they took Crucifix Trench and Sunken road trench, further advance being impossible due to the casualties taken, 460 amongst the 1st Bn alone. Sold with copied MiC, research and photographs of the headstone and the Somme. *CR slightly polished and surface marks. A lot fee of £8 inc.
