Queen's South Africa Medal with clasps 'Transvaal', 'Relief of Ladysmith', 'Tugela Heights', 'Cape Colony' of 5645 Private J. Anthony of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Sold with clasps 'Burma 1885-7' and 'Burma 1887-1889' taken from the India General Service Medal 1854-1895.Resident of Meidrin, Carmarthen. Enlisted in Cardiff on 11th April 1898 into the 1stBattalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers whilst serving with the Cardigan Militia Artillery. Served in South Africa from 23rd October 1899 until 18th July 1900, being wounded at the Battle of Tugela Heights. Tried and found guilty by District Courts Martial on 14th September 1900. Returned to duty with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers in China until 9th November 1902, when they were posted to India. Transferred to the Army Reserve on 10th April 1906.
