In late 1979, the Jaguar XJ was facelifted, and re-named as the XJ Series III. Using the long-wheelbase version of the car, the XJ incorporated a subtle redesign by Pininfarina. Externally, the most obvious changes over the SII were the thicker and more incorporated rubber bumpers with decorative chrome only on the top edge, flush door handles for increased safety, a one-piece front door glass without a separate 1/4 light, a grille with only vertical vanes, reverse lights moved from the boot plinth to the larger rear light clusters and a revised roofline with narrower door frames and increased glass area. There were three engine variants, including the 5.3 lt V12, the 4.2 lt straight-six and 3.4 L straight-six. The larger six-cylinder, and V12 models incorporated Bosch fuel injection which was made under licence by Lucas. 132,952 Series III cars were built, 10,500 with the V12 engine.
This car is in very good condition having just had £4500 spent on it at SPM Jaguar Specialist in Byfleet, including brake calipers, suspension bushes, complete check over, exhausts, fuel tanks and change over valve, head lining, wheels refurbished, and all five new tyres. This really is a very good car, it only did 236 miles between 2010 and now. Dry stored for a total of 16 Years of its life. No history as this was mislaid when a previous owner passed away ,however when you look at the condition of this car, it suggests that the m ileage is correct.
These Series III cars, which were the last carto use the XK engine are now much sought after, and this one is a tremendous investment opportunity.
