£100 - £150
A Continental tin-glazed earthenware two-handled istoriato bottle-vase, probably Italian, probably 19th century, the form derived from a Renaissance pilgrim-flask, with lug handles and a tall cylindrical neck, painted with a continuous mythological scene with nymphs, a river god, a triton and dolphins, the reverse with Hercules holding a club flanked by putti, one with pan pipes, the other offering a palm branch to a doe, 36cm high
There is a hole to the principal scene (approximately 11mm x 20mm) –this could be filled and overpainted by a restorer. One of the handles has been broken through and restuck (the original components are present, with the exception of a few minute losses along the breaks).
